Legal and document version control
Version control for contracts, policies and legal documents.
MyGitNotes keeps contracts, policies and legal documents as Markdown in Git. Each revision is a commit with an author, a time and a message, so you can compare any two versions and show who changed which clause.
What you get
Every revision recorded
Who changed it, when, and why.
Compare any two versions
See exactly which lines changed between drafts, without hunting through email attachments.
An audit trail you own
The history lives in your repository, not in our database.
Review before it counts
Use GitHub branches and pull requests for changes that need approval.
Signed copies beside the text
Keep the signed PDF or scan next to its Markdown, versioned together.
AI drafts, on the record
Clauses an AI agent drafts or edits arrive as separate commits you can review or reverse.
Questions and answers
Can Git track legal documents?
Yes, as long as they are text. Markdown is plain text, so Git records each changed line. Signed PDFs keep every version too, just without a line-by-line diff.
How do I see what changed between two versions of a contract?
Open the note’s history in MyGitNotes and choose a commit to see the lines it added and removed. On GitHub you can compare any two commits.
Who changed a clause, and when?
Every commit records its author and time. GitHub’s blame view shows the commit that last changed each line.
Can someone rewrite the history?
Each commit is identified by a hash of its content and the history before it, so changing the past changes every later hash. Protect the branch on GitHub and block force pushes to prevent rewrites.
Can the documents stay on our own servers?
Yes. The open-source edition runs on your servers against a Git repository you host. Contact sales for a commercial licence or setup help.
